The African Society of International Law (AfSIL) wants to bring novelty as part of the constellation of organisations concerned with international law. AfSIL is above all an African Society and it is a truism that is worth reiterating. Thus, to build a firm foundation in Africa is its main objective. With regard to recruitment, The AfSIL invites all internationalists, sons/daughters of the continent to join it, whether resident in African countries or elsewhere, without exclusion or discrimination.
This emphasis on Africanness, however, does not mean confinement. The AfSIL aims to gather the best lawyers of all nationalities, who desire law, justice and peace in Africa and the recognition of the dignity of all Africans as a source of satisfaction and perhaps of profit.
The advent of this Society represents a break with the tradition: its aim is to promote African specificity in international law by mobilising and strengthening our skills. The African expertise exists; it deserves to be more widely recognised.
